Chic-Nile-Rodgers-new-album-it's-about-time-disco-soul

Nile Rodgers’ and Chic have revealed the cover of their forthcoming album, ‘It’s About Time,’ which is set to be released on September 7th.

It’s 26 years since their last original album, 1992’s ‘Chic-ism’, which had the primary lineup of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards with singers Sylver Logan Sharp and Jenn Thomas and boasted the underrated ‘Chic Mystique’ among its singles.

This new album will showcase collaborations with the likes of Bruno Mars, Debbie Harry, Anderson Paak, Nao, Mura Masa and actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Not much more is known yet, but we’re hoping that Chic’s live line-up will get to feature heavily. Singers Folami & Kimberley Davis, drummer Ralph Rolle, bass guitarist Jerry Barnes and multi instrumentalist keyboard players Richard Hilton & Russell Graham are such a tight unit that it would be a huge shame not to see them contributing prominently. V Magazine spoke to Nile Rodgers recently about it and filmed the process of shooting the sleeve.

The sleeve is a direct homage to the cover of their debut album from 1977 and it updates that design beautifully for 2018. The original use of the two models on the cover were inspired by the glamour and anonymity of Roxy Music’s presentation. Rodgers has talked often about how Roxy Music presented a total musical and visual experience, and how the early sleeves with models on the covers contributed to that experience.
