The lovely people from The Richmond Magazine have written this rather nice little piece on us, and the valuable public service we perform.

The Sheen Resistance are rounding up mature clubbers in Richmond and proving that when it comes to having fun, age matters not. Emily Davis finds out why YOU should join The Resistance!

“For those old enough to know better but doing it anyway” is the mission statement of The Sheen Resistance who, since 2009 have been putting on parties & discos for grown-ups in East Sheen, Barnes and Richmond.

Beginning as a one-off, the first night was so successful that requests for further events kept coming in, and the rest is history. What started out as just a local crowd has grown, with party lovers coming from all over London.

“Aimed at those who are still up for a good boogie, we want to take them back to when they were in their early twenties again, give them a great time and at the end of the night send them home singing” said Jason Regan, who DJs for The Resistance. “By joining, everyone should feel part of the gang – if they’re up for a good time, we want to see them!”

The music played is largely classic and old-school 70s disco, the funkier of the 80s sounds, and a smattering of club classics, all with a bit of a twist, as well as the odd guilty pleasure. They aim to evoke some of Studio 54 crossed with maybe a touch of the Wag Club and just a bit of The Goldmine. On any given night you can expect to hear anything from Chaka Khan, Chic, The Jacksons, Sly & the Family Stone, Blondie, Melba Moore, Cameo, Alison Limerick, D-Train, Rick James, Bee Gees, Miami Sound Machine, Luther Vandross and loads more.

Video backdrops assembled exclusively for the parties show clips of old movies, adverts and kids’ shows, adding to the retro vibe. This continues in all of their self-created promotional material for the events.

What are you waiting for? Join The Resistance!

The next night is called Discomatik, and is at East Sheen’s The Lofty Turtle on 21st June, 8.30pm – 1.00am.
